Wondering if anyone out there has managed to send an iMessage without using a Wi-Fi network?
All the txts I've tried to send have bounced back and ended up having to use the normal txt service.
It might be that it's just the way it works and I should have read the small print. But I was under the impression the iMessage service between iPhone users would be available regardless of the connection type (Cellular Data, 3G or Wi-Fi).
Or maybe (conspiracy theory alert!) it's just Vodafone throwing a spanner in the works…

On iphone at least, iMessage is supposed to be seamless. you send a normal message and, if possable imessage will be used, otherwise the other services should take over without user intervention.
Or at least that's how I understand it.
In my extensive testing (1 try) a message sent without wifi went via sms. Perhaps wifi is a requirement, that would be a bit poo though.

After all of yesterday's attempts failed to be delivered, today it all works a treat.
Go figure…

iMessage is needed to be activated which the phone sends a text(which costs) to activate the app. After iMessage is free to send texts to other iDevices over 3G or Wifi

Works over 3G and WiFi for me. If it can't send for some reason it'll just go by SMS.
