Hi all
Siri is not available for NZ, but….
1. Will it be on a NZ bought 4S, given that iOS5 is universal?
2. If so, can it be used here, even though it needs to be set to Australian English for example?
3. Does it need to be activated/enabled, and if so is that an issue for a NZ bought 4S?
Cheers
Tony

I have an iPhone 4S that I bought in Australia. Siri works just fine. You have the choise to use English (AU, US or UK), French or German. I'm an Australian so I have had no issues using English (Australian). I hope this helps. Cheers.

Can anybody out there clarify… if you buy a New Zealand iPhone 4S, does it come with Siri?
I'm still not sure whether Siri is not promoted as a feature due to not being installed, or if it's just because Siri doesn't officially support NZ English.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, picked up my 64gb 4S today, Siri is present and works. I've had her play some music, do a couple of random web searches and make a call. She seems to struggle with finding the weather in the Waikato though. I also asked her to release the hounds, sadly she didn't get it hah (Simpsons reference)
There will probably be a few instances where our accent trips her up as it is configured for the Aussie twang.

Just don't go asking for a six-pack (beer) unless you have the Aussie one turned on :P

While in Australia this week I found Siri works better on England than Australia setting.

My Siri issues:
- No location based stuff (like: 'Need beer' — response is blah blah not supported out of US blah blah), but fair enough we knew about that
- My weather related questions don't work. In my notifications center I get the current Dunedin temperature, but no icon related to conditions… this is the same thing on my computer (a GeekTool thing which puts weather on my desktop). This leads me to believe it's a Yahoo problem, and that really annoys me.

I have been pleasantly surprised that SIRI has turned out to be genuinely useful and not just a novelty. Like everyone else I've been asking all sorts of things just to see what responses it gives but after using SIRI to assist me to create a couple of "real live" text messages (i.e. not just for testing) I am now convinced it's a feature I will make good use of – especially since my pudgy fingers have trouble with the keyboard!
My funniest SIRI story is when my wife and I were playing around asking all sorts of things my wife requested that I ask SIRI who my wife is and it responded by bring up her correct contact details which of course includes her photo!
This came a great surprise to my wife who was not aware how anal I am about the level of details I have in my contacts. I have photos for everyone and also have listed spouses, parents, siblings etc…
@Mak – I have not experienced any weather issues? In fact I have just asked SIRI about tomorrow's weather. I get a response "Here's the weather for tomorrow" and a little weekly forecast display comes up with the days of the week, a symbol and a min and max temp.

Ark, ask Siri these two things
- What is the weather going to be like in Auckland tomorrow
- What is the weather going to be like in Dunedin tomorrow
There's some sort of bug at Yahoo. They get all their info from MetService who definitely have the conditions, but Yahoo somehow isn't publishing them properly.
Can anyone else from Dunedin confirm this (eg. "What is the weather going to be like tomorrow" and then more explicitly with the above questions) and maybe we can get a case for Apple to chase up Yahoo?

Mak, I did what you suggested – although I did phrase it slightly different. But check out the rather "off the wall" reply that I got… Maybe Siri's tring to say it's going to be mind-numbingly cold in Dunedin tomorrow (which is now today)!
I am almost tempted to insert any number of Dunedin joke but since I think Dunners is a great wee town I'll resist!

Mak, I have now asked Siri the exact phrase in relation to Dunedin. Like you have observed, other cities in NZ give an answer including Weather information – however asking about Dunedin doesn't give you the expected result.
Very odd indeed.

Are you sure that Siri understands your pronunciation of Dunedin?

Thanks very much for confirming that Siri is alive and kicking on NZ iPhone 4S'.
I'll commence my hunt for one in earnest now…

leStar, yes of course — Siri brings up a confirmation of what it thinks you said before it goes searching.
I have been in contact with Telecom and they have lodged an issue with Yahoo which means the Dunedin (and rest of Otago/Southland) issue will be fixed shortly. Awesome stuff.
