A nice surprise, at least this didn't take as long to come out as the j/b for 4.2.1, that was a restless wait!

Now just need to wait until all the Cydia apps are 4.3.1 compatible, pointless updating iOS & jailbreaking unless they are.

After doing some research I updated my phone to iOS4.3.1 last night and immediately jailbroke it. To my pleasant surprise all my Cydia apps work well and this iOS would have to be the fastest one released by Apple thus far, it's excellent! Cool

I'm a 1st time JB'er. Have NZ new iPhone and already on 4.3.1. Do I still need the latest IPSW file and do i just use red snow? Any one had any issues with this JB?

Just straight through with redsn0w. Once you get jailbroken and cydia loaded then make sure you select 'make my life easier' so that your shsh blobs are saved and then if you need to in the future you can load ipsw of any vintage onto your phone as needed.

You should have a copy of it on your PC, in the following folder depending on which OS you are running:

On Windows XP :
Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

On Windows Vista/Windows 7:
Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

On Mac:
~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates

Simply navigate to that folder & copy the 4.3.1 IPSW to your desktop, then go to the following site and download Redsn0w, then go to the tutorial for your phone in this same link and follow carefully:

I see 2 links posted above, one from me and one from nzlotrfan.

You need to help us out too pal. Are you running Mac or Windows? Did you update to 4.3.1 through your own computer or did you recently buy your phone new with 4.3.1 installed?

Considering your minimal worded posts and lack of info to help us help you, maybe you should give jailbreaking a miss…these are expensive devices and unless you have some understanding of what you're doing you might end up bricking your phone and losing it. Yell

Hi Matt,

Short responses were due to me replying via my iphone.

So here are the specs:

-NZ New iphone 4 purchased 6 months ago

-ugpraded to ios 4.3.1 using itunes a few weeks back through my own computer

-I am running Windows 7

- I am reading the iclarified post at the moment, to understand the process that needs to be followed.

Ok good one. The link provided above will help you, download Redsn0w for Windows and follow the Windows tutorial carefully, the IPSW file should be in the folder on your PC, your PC always stores the most recent IPSW file, the only time you will need to download it again is if you are reverting to a previous iOS version like 4.2.1.

Let us know how you go, if successful I'll post a list of the best Cydia apps to use IMO. Cool

Thanks all on this page for your assistance. I can confirm that Operation Jailbreak went as planned :-)

Matt, I did not get the "make my life easier" option pop up though….  It does say" the device is in the pending TSS queue"  What does this mean, and how long does it take?

SHould I have had the pop up come up, and if so, what do I do now?

Keen for your opinions on the best Cydia apps as well guys!

Cydia got upgraded just last week. Maybe shsh handling is automatic these days. I don't use many jailbreak apps personally, more tweaks. But off hand the best bits of jb are:
Sbsettings (toggles like airplane Bluetooth etc)
sbsschedule (liked timed profiles)
3G unrestrictor
Haptic pro
Syncronocity
Quickreply for SMS
Action menu
OpenNotifier
iCallannounce
Tonefxs is ok but a bit limited
Safari tweak advanced tabs is good
Liveclock is cool
Played around with weather icon a bit
Tweaks like nospot, asktocall
I'm not into theming or winterboard
Have fun!

Cydia can no longer handle the saving of SHSH blobs due to apples signing regime changing. It is now up to us jb'ers to save them as we go. Check the tutorial in cydia. I just did mine locally on my iOS device using iSHSHit for 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 (the only firmwares that Apple is now signing) then emailled them to myself.

Without more information, I'd suggest you've updated a carrier locked iPhone (probably imported from the US) to iOS 4.3.2

If that is the case, you're screwed. You just have to wait and hope there is a jailbreak & unlock released.

You need more information if you want real answers.

-What model iPhone

-Where was the phone originally purchased (for what network)

-What firmware did you update to. If you don't know, when did you update it.

It looks as if you may also need a sim from the original carrier (eg. at&t)

Then again someone else may have some better advice, it's been quite a while since I've had a jailbroken phone.

As the phone was imported from the US, it will be locked to at&t. You will most likely need an at&t simcard in order to activate it. Once it's activated you will probably be able to jailbreak and unlock it.

In the future you will need to update the firmware using a jailbreak tool rather than itunes or it might not be possible to ever unlock the phone.

Ring Apple and say it was a gift from a friend in the States and see what they could do for you. They may replace the phone I advised a friend to do this and Apple did replace the phone.
