Hi guys,
Below is an update for the availability for Jailbreaking iPhone OS devices on firmware 3.1.3.
Before we get going, anyone with a newer iPhone 3GS, newer iPod touch 2G, or any iPod touch 3G should stop reading now. There is NO jailbreak or unlock available for you as of yet. If you update you will loose the ability to jailbreak.
iPhone 2G: Good news! All you need to do to jailbreak 3.1.3 is point the latest redsn0w release at regular iPhone 2G 3.1.2 .ipsw firmware (for verification purposes) and it will jailbreak the 3.1.3 running on your device. I am fairly sure you can use BootNeuter to unlock your device if you need to. This can also be jailbroken with the latest Pwnagetool.
iPod touch 1G: Same as above, except use regular iPod touch 1G 3.1.2 .ipsw firmware (for verification purposes). This can also be jailbroken with the latest Pwnagetool.
iPhone 3G: Same as above, except use regular iPhone 3G 3.1.2 .ipsw firmware (for verification purposes). You WILL lose your unlock if you require one. Don't update if so! This can also be jailbroken with the latest Pwnagetool.
iPod touch 2G (older): If you own an older iPod touch 2G, you can use this specially compiled version of redsn0w (Mac / Windows) to jailbreak your device. Point it at regular iPod touch 2G 3.1.2 .ipsw firmware (for verification purposes) and it will jailbreak the 3.1.3 running on your device. If you are unsure if your device is "older" or "newer", hold off to be sure. This can also be jailbroken with the latest Pwnagetool.
iPod touch 2G (newer): If you own a newer iPod touch 2G, there is NO jailbreak available. Do not upgrade.
iPhone 3GS (older): There is a jailbreak available with PwnageTool if you are already Jailbroken (pwned) at a previous version down to 3.0. If you have a newer bootrom you cannot jailbreak. Your unlock can be preserved if you upgraded with Pwnagetool. If you used the official update process to 3.1.3 you have lost the ability to jailbreak and unlock for the time being.
iPhone 3GS (newer): There is no jailbreak or unlock available. Keep an eye on http://blog.iphone-dev.org
iPod touch 3G: There is NO jailbreak available. Do not upgrade.
As of Feb 8 2010, the Dev-Team have released a new version of PwnageTool to jailbreak 3.1.3. It is extremely vital that you read through this post fully and understand it before attempting anything.
Your device may not be eligable for this and performing the jailbreak could mess things up.
