I've released MapApp NZ North Island, a new universal iPad/iPhone app which has all the LINZ 1:50000 Topo50 maps built-in for offline viewing.
There are separate apps for the North and South Islands because its a bit of squeeze getting all that data under the 2Gb maximum app size.
The apps are pretty simple – GPS location and placename search are supported but no gpx import/export yet.
If you travel in areas with no cellphone coverage then this is the app for you!

You are the man! Thankyou immensely for creating this app. As soon as I am back on broadband I will buy. Will cost me too much data over 3G! I have been waiting for this for over a year now. Cheers

I like. It's simple and effective. It allows me to view proper topos offline and position myself on them. I'm hoping the maps will get updated from time to time and that a future update will allow you to overzoom for more detailed positioning.
