So i'm on a road trip up the country and listening to my favorite radio station (The Rock/ZM/Radio Live/Whatever) and as i leave my home town i start to lose reception…. AAargh! I hit the scan and search through several not-as-good stations (including one "life-fm") which are difficult to identify because they are playing adds or a different song to what i was listening. 10 frustrating minutes later i get back to my what i was listening to.

That is my nightmare (or one of them anyway)

What if i had and app that used the location services to automatically identify the local frequency of my favorite station, or list the frequencies and identify all stations near my location?

That would be awesome!

http://frequencyfinder.co.nz/

Try that, it's not an app but it's the best online resource of finding a frequency.

How are you listening to your radio station? Why don't you use the New Zealand Radio Streams app?

Listening to the radio station in the car using the car stereo. Don't want to be streaming over 3G due to data usage (and lets face it, outside main metro areas and off SH1 Voda3G is average) and I want to be able to do this whether in my car, my wife's car, my friends car, or a work car.

Right I see what you mean. So dependent on where you are it will show you a list of stations and their frequency so that you can tune in, right?

Good idea. I'd like to see someone make that app.

From the frequency finder website linked above

"Frequency Finder has been developed by a consortium of radio broadcasters comprising members of the Radio Broadcasters Association ( mainly commercial operators), Radio New Zealand, Iwi broadcasters and a number of independent AM and FM stations.

Our purpose is to help radio listeners find their favourite stations during a period of change. Frequency Finder will be maintained as an accurate source of frequencies across NZ in the years ahead."

So something like this website as an app would be ideal, especially if it could link location services to automatically get a list of the nearest freq's

yes would be so nice if they made an app for radio's and not stream live! Wished the rock would get behind that, I love listening to the rock my old phone (nokia) had stations where you could choose shame Iphone's don't I have written to them but surprise no response! Maybe someone from here could? Be more listeners for them, as if the edge can do it i'm sure they could?
