Hopefully something that would have the ability to use the notifications feature.
I'm not a TM junkie but I really believe it will make life easier for buyers and sellers as one would be able to post and reply to auction questions, get up to date info on bids, do searches and of course bid, bid, bid.
The TradeMe ppl might be interested in investing some $$ into this, maybe even into a cross platform project (iPhone, BB, Droid, etc)
What do you think?
It's a bit late for me to be very eloquent and detailed but this thread is open so any suggestions and ideas would be welcomed. I might add some more stuff when/if the inspiration strikes me.
Cheers

This is a great idea. I'm constantly using Trade Me and this would be a great help so it is easier on the go.

Hey everyone, I'm a training dev, I could make a web application of trade me. That would probably be the best and easiest way to be able to make a trade me app.

Orsome have an app that can view your own auctions but that's as far as it goes.  From what I've read it's due to Trade Me's restrictions on API type access to their data. Any more info?

If someone can come up with a really functional app (I've heard the Aussie ebay one is quite good) then I'd pay for it :)

AppleiPhone, Trade Me has an iPhone/Mobile version of TradeMe already so a Web App would be no improvement.

m.trademe.co.nz is a mobile version of their site, but it is just a mobile version and not a WebApp. WebApps are better than just a mobile version but TradeMe should still employ one of our fantastic local devs and get them on the case to create a native app.

Yup I hate to differ with you TheNZguru but the mobile version of TradeMe is optimised for WAP, not for iPhone. It is extremely basic – there is no ability to browse the product categories, doing a search results in only five results per page, you cannot look at the profile / feedback for members, you can only view tiny thumbnails of product photos, the writing is tiny and the links are not finger friendly, to name but a few drawbacks. An iPhone optimised version (or even a general smartphone optimised version) of TradeMe could be a million times better than that. There is no reason that full functionality could not be achieved but with a better layout and some extras such as push notification for auctions you're bidding on (if it were a native app). I'm surprised you can't see the potential.

Yes Steve sorry, I The WebApps I have seen and used have little functionality so that's where I got the idea that most WebApps are no improvement. But recently I have tried even more and have found that, As you said, full functionality CAN be achieved. Sorry for my previous post on the topic which was misleading and I hope to have cleared that up.

I'm glad to see ppl getting interested and involved.
How do we get the attention of a developer?
Is there a developer in the house??

There's very little point in developing one without TradeMe opening APIs. It would have to be made inhouse at TradeMe.

The UI looks good but will trademe allow access to their API's?
