Have tried everything, resetting, erasing, cellular settings (wap.telecom.co.nz and internet.telecom.co.nz). Wifi off and back on.

MMS switched on. Must have facetime or could lose my mind! I am on XT, went from a 3GS to 4 about 2 weeks ago have been trying ever since. Ported number over about 2 years ago.

Any help very muchly appreciated! Yell

Some people seemed to have solved there issues and been activated but I have tried all of these and nothing!

Wish XT would offer up a help desk or something on twitter telecomnz to solve this issue. Even if it isnt an XT problem I am still there customer using there network, would be good PR to say we will sort this come and see us!

I'm confused with the talk of FaceTime on mobile network, so I'm not reall sure what is going on here. Have you try activate FaceTime via WiFi? Just a side note, FaceTime wouldn't work on 3G (mobile network) unless you tether WiFi from other phone connect to 3G network.

OK folks lets go through the basics first so we know we've covered everything.

-Facetime is WiFi only so you need WiFi to activate (and use), it does also use an sms for activation.

-Facetime can take a long time to activate, mine took at least 2 hours, so if you're sitting there turning it off and on you'll get nowhere. Remember sometimes sms messages take forever to get where they're going.

So make sure you are connected to WiFi and you can access the web from it. Turn on facetime and just leave it. If you're still stuck after 2-3 hours, or you've already done that, try these pages.

Yes – fully understand how it is meant to work – but it's not.

On WiFi – with Telecom APN etc setup – comes back after a few hours and says something along the lines of "unsuccessful, turn on FaceTime to try again" or some such none helpful message.

I even tried calling someone with an iPhone 4 while it's sitting waiting for activation – that didn't prompt anything – and just trying to FaceTime myself from both my Mac and my iPad 2 and just says my mobile number is not available for FaceTime.

I've just done a "Reset all Settings" – followed by the joy of re setting everything up…. And have just toggle FaceTime to "ON" again and been sitting on that for 15 mins – so will check again in a few hours….

But me wondering if something has changed with Telecom or MicroSims or something recently….

To my understanding, FaceTime should have nothing to do with mobile (Vodafone, Telecom, 2degrees) at all as it's Wifi only. I have managed to get FaceTime setup with another person between iPad and MacBook Pro in less than 3 minutes by just exchange email address that link to iTunes Store account, no SMS involves as two devices can not receive them.

It's sound like there is some problem with the iTunes Account that you want to FaceTime with. I suggests to forget the mobile services and try ask for help from Apple.

On the other though, could there be Firewall problem with FaceTime on Wifi router? (as the port that FaceTime using get blocked).

Hi. I wonder if your facetime activation text has been stopped by Telecom? They seem to be stopping some international non-carrier derived text messages. Ie Skype texts no longer come through. See the geekzone thread on this. http://m.geekzone.co.nz/Forums…..opic/80270

Thanks leStar – that could well be the situation… I've posted over there to see if it brings a resolution.

A quick response from Telecom on Geekzone…

Akia: "My colleague has just tried it beside me here and it's delivering it fine. If you're still having problems best to give 123 a call and get someone to investigate.

EDIT: We've just completed some more testing and found that ported numbers don't seem to be working again. Although this is a side topic in this thread – I'll forward the details onto our technicians and get them to investigate."

So we're not imagining things – there is a current problem with FaceTime activation on XT with ported numbers… we now await their techs resolution.

I spoke to the 2 guy's at Telecom yesterday who originally resolved this issue, as per the post above they have confirmed they are are aware and are currently testing fixes.

By the sounds of things it shouldn't be to far away.

I am so having no luck getting FaceTime activated on my iPhone 4 which has an 021 ported number. I have tried resetting network, shutting down iPhone, resetting all settings, etc, but all I get is waiting for activation or 'unable to connect to facetime'. Hopefully they will fix it soon

I had the same problem a while ago. Ported number to Telecom and waiting for activation for 4days!

After talking to Telecom, Apple Care, Apple reseller and in the end to Apple in California no one could solve this problem.

I was desperate and as I already ported my number to Telecom I decided to change to 027. I managed to keep the same number, the only thing I needed to do is to change the 021 into 027. They even transferred the balance of my prepaid. When they rang me after a few hours and told everything was done, I activated FaceTime and it only took a few minutes.Laugh

FaceTime seems to have problems with ported numbers!Frown

So does mine – I was coming here to say maybe 4.3.2 fixed it – cause I tried it straight after I updated – but maybe it was the wonders of Telecom yesterday rather than 4.3.2 – anyways – nice to be activated now.
