I recently bought an iPhone 4s from trademe.co.nz, got it at a good price I might say but I am unable to use it as it has been blocked by telecom due to the last owner or whoever not paying the bill. Telecom have said that the IMEI number is blocked until the previous owner or myself pays the bill which I am not doing and I dont even know the previous owner. I have been to the police to see what I can do as I was ripped off they have contacted trademe but the user used dodgy details so I am screwed. I have heard that you can re-activate an iPhone with another sim but I am not too sure.. So my question is does anyone out there know how I can unlock this phone. Please any advice would be appreciated.

I think you may misunderstand what is happening, the phone isn't locked, it's just blocked (banned).
There will be no way to use it on a Telecom network, until the bill is paid.
You will probably be able to use it on Vodafone or 2Degrees.
If you really want to use it on Telecom, you might want to ask them the amount of the outstanding bill, if you got the phone cheap, and the outstanding amount is small, it might be worthwhile paying the bill.

Ok guys well I manage to crack it any ways, I rang telecom and after talking to 7 different people and hearing 7 different opinions the last woman I spoke to was able to give me a new number on my micro sim and put through a request for the phone to be unlocked, which was completed this morning. I am over the moon
