Hi All
I have down loaded the XT latest carrier boudle and installed it to the PDF that come with it but I can not send pxt messages. Is there something else I need to do for this work.

Cheers

Cannot send them?

- do you see the camera button in the Messages app and tap it to "add" an image?

- do you get an error when doing the above?

- if there was an error, what was it?

- did the carrier bundle install properly? do you have the XT logo?

- do you have adequate credit on your account / ability by XT to do so?

Have you been able to use that SIM card to send pxt's from another moblile? Can you check with Telecom to make sure they have enabled MMS on your account.

I am having the same problem. The carrier bundle made the voicemail button work and added the XT logo on to the task bar at the top of the screen. However, I cannot get text messages through. The photo (loaded from my photo library & one taken using ther iphone camera) will load into the text screen and start sending but then an error (!) and it does not send. I have spoken to telecom (126) and they have not been able to help.

Am I missing something here? I purchased the phone from Apple on the express advice that it would function on the Telecom XT network. I found straight away that some things did not work. I eventually found my way to this website. I downloaded the carrier bundle from Apple Mobile New Zealand but still have a problem and it is left for the forum participants to sort out? The blurb with the carrier bundle states it will add the XT logo, fix the text messaging of photos, and get the voice mail button working. It did all but the messaging fix. I was disheartened to find that the problem is not new and no one seems interested in fixing it. I have contacted Telecom to check my data plan and all other aspects of my plan are set up. Is it not Apple Mobile New Zealand's matter to sort out given they have recognised some shortcomings with their phone on the XT network hence the need to provide a carrier bundle? However, I see that they do not want us to contact them and refer people to the forums.

I think you are confused about this site. This site is a privately run blog and forum for iPhone, iPod and soon to come iPad enthusiasts, we are in no way affiliated or associated with Apple or Telecom and nor are they with us.

XT and 2Degrees are NOT official iPhone Carriers. The only official carrier in New Zealand is Vodafone. The iPhone simply works with XT's and 2Degrees' SIM network. We are simply trying to make that experience better. You purchased the iPhone expecting it to work on XT and it does, some functions require user input to get them to work and visual voicemail is only available on some carriers. At no point to Apple, Telecom, 2Degrees or even Vodafone say that all the services will work.

We created the bundles so that users could get the most out of the iPhone on the XT or 2Degrees networks, without the bundle the iPhone functions as Apple advertises with the exception of visual voicemail (which they state is not available on all networks). On occasion the MMS side of things doesn't work, but every case we have come across eventually gets sorted. This is nothing to do with the bundle themselves, you can manually enter the information contained within the bundles and activate MMS yourself and we provide the manual settings from the navigation bar at the top of the site. The bundles simply automate this for you, but even if you were to enter the information manually you would still have the same issue.

The carrier logo's are simply cosmetic and something only achieved by an un-official bundle.

The reason it is left to the forum or blog commenting to get it sorted is that we don't have the time to service every email we receive. Often you get quicker answers via this method than you would if you emailed us. We are 2 or 3 individuals that have full time jobs and full time families and children. This is a part time hobby for us not a full time employment.

McBill and Graemef1, there is some confusion on the difference between TEXT and MMS. A TEXT allows you to send just that text in a message. MMS alows you to send photo, audio or video in a message. The issue you are both having is the sending of MMS. A couple of things need to be checked with the MMS to see if we can resolve the issue.

1. On the iPhone under "Settings >> General >> Network >> Cellular Data Network" you will see some settings as per the image below. For MMS there are two APN's that may work, one in in the screenshot which says internet.telecom.co.nz and another which is wap.telecom.co.nz

Please edit the APN under the MMS settings to wap.telecom.co.nz exit  back to the home screen and restart the device by holding down the sleep button on top until the red "Slide to power off" appears. Then slide to power off and once off switch it back on. Now try to send an MMS.

If this fails we then need you to try the following:

2. Can you send an MMS using another phone with your SIM card in it (i.e. does a friend have another phone you could borrow to try your SIM card out)? This test checks to make sure your SIM card is set up correctly.

If it works from another device then we know it is an issue with the iPhone settings that needs resolving. If it doesn't work then we know it is an issue with the SIM card.

Thank you very much for correcting me. I apologise for my lack of understanding. I have tried both suggested solutions. The WAP setting had no effect. I then swapped the SIM card into my wife's phone and successfully sent a text with smiley face – something I cannot do with the SIM card in my iPhone.

Try getting someone to send you an MMS/PXT first.

McBill – Smiley faces (emotions) are completely different to MMS (picture messaging).

I have explained on Geekzone and will explain here:

"emotions" such as Emoji Emotions are nothing to do with the carrier or the carrrier bundles but are to do with the device. The iPhone doesn't support emotions out-of-the-box and you have to install an app to get them to work, however they can only be received by other iPhones or mobiles that have the same emotions installed (which is not easy to find if it is not an iPhone).

If it is "emotions" that don't work for you then this is not something that can be "fixed" without buying everyone you know an iPhone and installing the app for them. The iPhone does not support them out-of-the-box.

For example Steve (Co-Owner iPhonewzealand) has an iPhone with Emoji's installed and so do I, so we can send emotions to each other. My wife, who has a Sony Ericsson, doesn't have the same emoji's so I can't send them to her.

I have done another test using my sim card in another phone (Sony Ericsson). With that sim card I managed to send a MMS photograph. I cannot send photographs using MMS in my iPhone with the same sim card so I figure it is an iPhone problem.

OK, so is this an "Emotion" (i.e Cool) problem or a MMS problem. Both are two different things.

It has to be an MMS problem with my iPhone because the sim card works in another phone and can send photos using MMS in another phone?

OK, can you PM me your mobile number and I will send you a MMS and then we can see if you can receive it. I can then get you to try to reply to it as well.

If that doesn't work, your next option is to restore you iPhone using iTunes, making sure you back-up first. Then once restored back to factory settings, re-install the bundle. Then restart the device, by holding down the sleep button on top until the red "Slide to power off" appears and then slide to power off, once off switch it back on, and try sending again.

Hi Guys,

Both of you still seem to be having issues. Can you try the following:  Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. After you reset your network settings the iPhone will reboot.

Then try sending me an MMS to the number you have.

If this fails you will need to restore you iPhone using iTunes, making sure you back-up first. Then once restored back to factory settings, re-install the bundle. Then restart the device, by holding down the sleep button on top until the red "Slide to power off" appears and then slide to power off, once off switch it back on, and try sending again.

Cheers

I have had success. I really appreciate your prompt and useful guidance. For those that might follow I will step through my experience.

New phone bought from Apple New Zealand and put on the XT network. I set up Exchange for work synchronisation of Outlook and a personal email address with no real difficulty. I then found that the voice mail icon did not work, and sending photographs by MMS did not work. After many phone calls to Telecom and Apple I was directed to the website http://www.iphonewzealand.co.nz to download the XT carrier bundle. The download went easily enough. Installing the bundle initially fixed several of the issues (voicemail icon worked, and XT symbol was put on the toolbar). Photographs could still not be sent through MMS. I checked using my sim card in another phone to make sure the MMS function worked, which it did. Then I was directed to reset as follows- Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. It fixed the problem.

Hey McBill,

Awesome, glad that sorted it for you.

Graemef1 – Any luck with the restore?
