My Wife and I both have iphone 3gs 16g,  bought about 2 months apart. Both on XT Network

In our house my reception from telecom is 1 bar and fails at times.  hers shows 3bars and is fine.

Is this a phone setting issue, or do I take it up with telecom ? Thanks

I'm no pro but it sounds to me like phone settings. If they are identical phones then I'd check to ensure the phone with 1 bar has the same identical settings as the phone with 3 bars. Are they both running the same software version & firmware?

I know for WiFi strength can differ from device to device. Perhaps the same can be applied to 3G.

Different covers? Different locations within a house can affect reception in marginal areas, what if you sit them side by side? Try swapping sims? Try to narrow down whether it's a network issue or hardware issue. Telecom can only help you if your sim is faulty, otherwise it could be a fault with the phone itself. Best of luck if it is a phone issue…

Had a look at covers we both had, and it affects perfomance.  I have a silver backed cover which changes my telecom reception.

Interesting we both have same type of cover but my wifes is black and mine silver.   Telecom X.T reception perfect with silver cover off.  Thanks for help.

I thought the 3GS model only came out in either black or white, not silver?? Or are you talking about an aftermarket protective cover of some kind?

After market. That's interesting though. Didnt realize the cover impacted on reception. But knowing that the antenna on the iPhone is not fantastic it could make sense.

Its an after market cover called case mate.(silver)  It definitely affects reception.  Maybe due to some sort of reflection issue. Don't know but the silver one reduces my telecom coverage significantly.  Will be stealing my wifes on soon as I know my kids are getting her a new one for mothers day.  hehe
