I am a Canadian with a factory unlocked iPhone 4 who will be going to New Zealand for the next two months. I'd ideally like to be able to buy a prepaid MicroSIM when I arrive so I can make calls on my phone. I don't care about 3G or anything like that I'd just like to be able to make and recieve calls on my phone while I'm in the country. My expierence with telecoms leads me to suspect that Vodafone will want me to buy some overly expensive data plan (since I'm using an iPhone) which I don't want. My question is, can I as a tourist, walk into a Vodafone store and buy a MicroSIM with prepaid minutes to use with an iPhone?

Short answer is yes, you can get a MicroSIM with prepaid minutes however it would probably need to be an actual Vodafone store. Telecom and 2degrees also sell MicroSIMs and 2degrees is probably going to be the cheapest option for you. MicroSIMs are sometimes thin on the ground, though, so if you've got access to a cutter it may pay to have one of those handy just in case you can only get a regular SIM. You should be okay though.

If you get a standard sim and are in Auckland city drop me a pm. I've got a cutter at work and happy to help.
