Going by the rates on Vodafones website, could I sign up to a $250 per month contract, get an I-phone 4 32Gig for $179 and terminate early for $450, resulting in a brand spanking new I-phone 4 for $879. Is that how it works or am I missing something?
If thats the case it's a damn site cheaper than buying one from apple @ $1299! And I can just pop a 2 degrees sim in and not be bound to vodafone!
Anyones thoughts etc as I am new to this whole site and I-phone world!
Thanks

The Termination fee on the $250 plan is $1050
From the VF website:
If your needs have changed and you want to end your iPhone or Broadband plan for mobile contract early, we'll do everything we can to help – but there may be fees.
The size of the fee depends on how early you're cancelling.
The termination prices shown below are exclusive of G.S.T.

I think the cheapest way is to get a 16GB on the $40 plan for $619 up front, pay $40 per month (for the first 3 months you get 3GB per month) and then cancel after 6 months and pay the $280 fee. So:
$619 +
$40 X 6 = $240 +
$280 + GST = $315 =
$1174 TOTAL
So $75 for 6 months usage. Or cancel straight away and pay $1165.25.

In short, it depends on whether you are willing to stick with Vodafone for a while or defect straight away as well as how much you would normally spend per month on 2 degrees.
Have at look at:

TradeMe. Buy one which Is still under warranty, make sure you get the purchase receipt from seller. Buyer beware of course.

I got one from a New Zealand company sim free, no contract, and never locked (yes it was an import) but so are Vodafones. I got it on no deposit H/P but costing me whole lot less than a Vodafone contract. Oh and it comes with a warranty – so deals are out there if you look. All I did was a Google search for iPhone 4 sellers in NZ – Prices from $1899 – $1399 happy hunting

iToys – Not sure what sort of deals you are used to but paying between $1399 and $1899 for an Iphone you can buy from Apple direct for $1299 does not sound ideal?? All Iphones are unlocked, sim free in NZ (Vodafone included) but VFNZ will only sell them on a contract. You can however buy direct from Apple without a contract…no need to pay $1899

I didn't pay $1899 - I paid $1399 but walked out with it on the spot no 3 week wait for shipping. So I paid $71 more than I would of from Apple store but I didn't want to wait. My wife got hers from Apple Store and took over month to arrive – the point is they work the same and XT network is fine for these phones on a plan we chose to suit our usage, not to get a cheap iPhone

Sorry to hijack. But can you immediatly terminate your contract with Vodafone? I want to get an Iphone 4, but I don't want to wait 3 weeks for Apple to send one out. So I was planning on going into Vodafone, getting the Iphone and then canceling.

I believe u can terminate ur contract but VF will charge u a premium price for it which will work out way more expensive than buying it from Apple. What's more important to u, a 3 week wait or shelling out way more $$ than u need to?
Don't ask me how much VF will charge as I don't know, neither do I support immediate contract termination, I think it's unethical business practise.

Actually just looking at it I think you save a few dollars than from when you purchase from Apple. I dont have a credit card, or Visa debit so I cannot order from Apple anyway. The thing with the plans is, I don't use my cell phone for calling very much, and I would like more txts. So I was planning on going on 2Degrees.
