Ive had the iphone 4 since it released.
The issue ive had has been around since i purchased it, however it didnt happen as much and it usually fixed itself.
The problem:
The phone seems to randomly not receive phone calls or text messages. The signal displays full strength and 3G active. however no phone calls come through and no texts come through either.
The only way to detect this problem is when i send a text, and it errors in sending. At which point i reboot the phone, and i get a flow of texts and the obvious 6 trillion voicemails.
This didnt used to bother me as i thought every one probably goes through this. But now I am a contractor and receiving phone calls for work from potential and current clients is crucial and i need to find a fix for this.
Ive found lately that this happens alot more than usual.
Why do i have to reboot my phone like once a day?
anyone else having this issue?
I have tried switching airplane mode off/on. makes no difference.
Help?!

You would be best putting the phone in for a warranty assessment and repair wherever you purchased the phone.

No this should definitely not be happening.
Ive had Iph 4 and all previous versions since day one. This is not normal.
I suggest you talk to a VF technician. Have you checked the settings as listed on this site also.
whats it doing since the latest 4.3 firmware upgrade as a matter of interest.
If still a problem then it needs looking at for sure

Hi Guys,
The problem persisted until this AM, when i realized i had missed 4 calls from high value clients. That basically pushed me over the edge to get something done.
I took this in to the vodafone store on queen street. The guys looked at the phone, tried to check the settings for signal etc.
He took the sim out and said where did you get this sim cut? I said Vodafone store.
He said well, they have not cut it properly and not all the points on the card may get connectivity to the phone.
recommended i change my sim card for 20$ (effin RIdICULOUS!!!)
so i did, so far all good. no issues with connectivity, i have all bars going and all calls coming through.
i hope it stays on because if not i will have to take the phone back.
The reason i dont think its the phone is because when my sister had her sim card in the phone first and it didnt give her any trouble. also when i reboot it, its fine..until i put it in my pocket and let it sit there for a while…
anyway i will keep you all posted. thanks for your reply

Hey, I thought I would just add in here that I have been having this same issue. Every so often and as you say its hard to know if its happening or not.
I thought I would also add that I have a VF micro sim, not a chopped down one. What do you guys think I should do? Take it to VF for repair?
- Mike

Yes, take it in for repair Mike, but you need to give them 3 – 5 examples of when it occurs, time, date, location so they can look at it from the network side.
Slick, good to hear you got a result, I'll have to remember that as I cut sims on occasions but had stopped this a little while back, as most customers are moving from 3GS or other devices where contact information is on their computer and can be uploaded.
Plus the cut down sim card voids warranty, so use it to transfer contacts but replace it with a microsim ($20.00 compared to a $1,100 device, not a lot)

Reposted here from iOS section:
When I called VF in the past, they have blamed it on faulty sim card cuttng (done by VF store btw) and made me buy a new micro sim. This has not fixed the issue.
This time at VF, I spoke to an iPhone specialist who said there seems to be an issue on iPhone 4 at the moment where if you have been connecting to the internet, the phone will somehow hold onto a data connection and not allow any voice calls or texts through. Making an outward call breaks the data connection and then the phone is available again. He also said quitting any apps should help but I found you still need to make a call out and besides, even if I use no apps all day, my e-mail pushing through still seems to cause the problem.
One symptom is that you suddenly get texts and voicemail messages through once you make a call.
Mike, if this continues i would suggest take it in and get a replacement.
I have found this to be true. i would get on my email and maybe facebook, then wont receive any calls for a while.
also ive noticed that if i enter into a shody 3G connection area, example lift or carpark, i wont get any calls.
what i do now is, i switch airplane mode on and off. then comes the surge of missed call texts and voicemail.lol
I will be taking the phone into yoobee in auckland. lets see what they say.
