I picked up a 32gb iPhone 4 today to replace my 3G. Too easy going from PAYG to Account.

Wow you signed up for one of those iPhone contracts!! Apple store costs way less you can get 5 iPhones for $6000 dollars from them – the vodafone iPhone contracts are way to expensive – but you pay less up front

Unless it's for business, who is going to buy 5 iphones at once? I dont see your point?
The VF plans may be way too expensive for you, but for others like myself they are quite affordable. I did the math when i changed from pre-paid to account and I end up saving money at $40 per month with VF, its so good that i changed my wife over to an account last week when i gave her my 3G unit, and VF gave us both a $75 credit on each of our accounts because i used their "refer a friend" special!

Yes it can be affordable as long as you can live with 30 minutes call time a month on the VF 40 iPhone plan. But at $0.91 per minute over that you will pay much more if you make calls. We use our phones on XT Share 400 plan, it gives us 400 minutes talk time and 4GB data shared between two phones for only $170 a month extra call are only $0.38 per minute the it is contract but only a 12 month term. I love using the iPhone 4 but hate network plans that make using to bloody expensive. I dont want a phone I can't afford to use. If I was on your plan and maintained the same usage I do currently my monthly bill would be over $400. VF does have better plans available if you don't get your iPhone from them.

Well the difference between us is that we don't make that many phonecalls from our iPhones. $170 a month would be a horrendous waste for us, we simply can't justify spending that much. You pay $2040 per year on mobile bills plus the outright cost of iPhones, while we pay $960 per year plus subsidised iPhones at nearly half the outright retail cost. We've done the calculations and it's the best deal for us.
The truth is there are different strokes for different folks, but then people like you make gross generalisations and say things like "Vondafone plans are way too expensive", too expensive for you maybe, but not everyone has the same mobile usage as you.

Quite right there – if I didn't want to make phone calls I would sign up for a VF plan

Just as well for us that the iPhone is so much more than a simple phone!
If I was spending as much as you are I'd wouldn't bother with a landline.

Still need broadband though so its a must – the iPhone is a good peice of equipment but it is backed by the slickest marketing campaign in the world but sooner or later someone will come out with something that kills it.
