I can not believe that ios5 will not have on screen (home screen) widgets!  The only widgets will be in a drop down android style notification bar?  That really is not good enough!  Home screen (not lock screen) widgets are the one thing the iphone does not have that I feel everyone would like, and benefit from!  Am I alone on this?

It's almost enough to make we go out and buy a Galaxy S2!  GrrrrrrrrrrYell

Springboard widgets don't really interest me if I want to know the weather I just look out the window. The only thing I would like to see is some quick toggles at the top of the notifications pane for wifi, bluetooth etc but I notice the JB community has already found they can add content there so even if Apple does not add them someone will.

Agreed Tadad, the more complexity you bring to the iPhone the lesser the user experience becomes and its just another operating system. The overriding theme of the keynote was that "it just works" hell some of the features that were announced aren't new, aren't innovative, it's the way that Uncle Steve and his team implement the feature that is innovative. I'm using it without using it. Additionally for end users the keynote for a developers conference is actually easy to understand showing the closer relationship between development to usability. As soon as Apple finds "it just works" ways to bring widgets to iOs and it benefits the user without users having to click this pick that, then they may well do it.

Buy that galaxy S and see how often you have to charge the damn thing because those widgets are always running. People I know with android phones use very few widgets because of the battery drain as @Topes mentioned. Implementation is where apple innovates nowadays.

Cheers Gamble,

Ti,

Have a read of the notifications center review on the front page, you may get your widgets through 3rd party developers as the API's will be available to create them, so Apple provide the innovation in deployment and the developers can bring the creativity of the features, but within the Apple framework which I would think would incorporate things like battery drain, network usage etc etc, to ensure users experience.
