Im going to the Pacific in the end of the year and I'd like to buy an iphone 4. Since one is too expensive in Australia, I was thinking about buying it in NZ. Well, I started to look for some answers and, apparently, UNLOCKED models are only sold through Apple Online Store! Is that right?
There's no other place that sells it physically and unlocked at all? I tought NZ had its own Apple Retail but I might be wrong.
Any advices?
ps: Is Australia in the same situation as you guys?

Hey Technokill,
All NZ iphones are sold unlocked :D .
HOWEVER ….
Currently purchasing through vodafone will mean that you are locked onto one of there 'iphone' plans.
Purchasing through the online apple store will get you a factory unlocked iphone.
If you need to get an iphone unlocked, but do not wish to wait the 4 weeks to recieve it, then you are able to purchase an iphone from vodafone on account, and then break your contract for about $450 + GST. This does result in the iphone being $50 dearer. But does mean you don't have the wait.
Hope this helps.

Hey Dylan, thanks alot for replying. Let me see if I understood it all.
So, all iphones are sold unlocked, including the ones sold by vodafone. Ok?
But, if I buy one from vodafone, I'll be stuck with a contract. Ok?
But..if they want a contract and I'm not from NZ, will they sell one to me? I mean, won't they ask for bank accounts and alot of other stuff? Otherwise why would I spend 50 bucks if it's very easy to just get the phone with the contract and leave the country? That I didn't get!
Thanks!

Haha.
Not sure how they would deal with that.
Obviously they require you to give them a physical NZ address, phone numbers etc. But no doubt you could run off and the chance of getting caught / tracked down would be minimal.
But never been on contract with vodafone, so do not know their procedures with accounts.
Need anything else just let me know.
Thanks

If you have some relatives living in NZ then i would suggest you to get
them to buy it for you. That way they can provide Vodafone with the
Physical Address and contact details.

Theyre virtually the same price from Apple in Aus and NZ. Are there Apple stores over there?
