does anyone know of a good ipad/iphone app that will allow you to send texts (sms ) using the 3g data connecction , apps like twetie and itim look great but only work for usa really , any ideas guys

As far as i've seen there are no apps that let you text a New Zealand number. If your looking to text overseas textPlus is pretty sweet. It texts app to app, iOS to Droid to Standard Cell

Best bet would be been using Skype, but then you will have to pay Skype rather than use txt credit on your SIM.
If you using 2 degrees SIM, you can send SMS by go to Settings -> Cellular Data -> SIM Applications -> Send a text. It would allow you to send SMS using your phone credit, but you won't be able to receives any SMS, however.

I actually found one last night and remembered your thread.
Heywire allows you to text for free.

Thanks for the reply everyone just downloaded heywire for my iPad 2 , works just incase of emergency but i wish it had nz number for reply but anyway working great and the 2 degrees is perfect aswell , just wish apple would give iPad a texting app :)

If you jailbreak you can use SwirlySMS and send native SMS through your cell carrier (ie 2°)
