TradeMe app updated, finally able to add new listings

Official Facebook for iPad app is ‘hidden’ inside iPhone app

Yup, you read that right. We’ve been waiting since the launch of the first iPad for an official Facebook app but it appears that there’s been one sitting right under our noses in hidden code right within the iPhone app. The secret app was discovered by TechCrunch and looks fantastic in the screenshots.

There are some simple instructions right here to enable the iPad app without jailbreaking, but just like almost everybody in the comments I have been unable to get it to work. It’s very likely that Facebook are now blocking access via the (modified) app but hopefully Zuckerburg & Co will shortly realise that the cat’s out of the bag and just give everybody what they want. If not… you could always start a Facebook group!

1-Night.co.nz is an online, card based, ticketing site that allows you to purchase tickets for events happening around the country. When you have purchased the ticket of choice, it loads it onto a card which you can then swipe at the event to gain entrance. It’s a great idea and great use of technology. We have just launched our second iPhone app in the App Store, which provides feeds from our site and iPhone settings for every NZ carrier, among other things. We are charging for this app so that we can give something back to the people of Christchurch following Tuesday’s deadly quake. The App is priced at $2.59 until the end of March and all proceeds from our cut of the sales will go to the NZ Red Cross (30% will still go to Apple, which we cannot avoid). Sygic to force ‘upgrade’ from Mobile Maps to Aura?

Any of you that have been with us from the start will know that Sygic Mobile Maps was one of the first turn-by-turn apps produced for New Zealand and the first that we ever reviewed, and well… let’s just say it holds a special place in our hearts. A year or so after Mobile Maps hit the store, Sygic launched a second turn-by-turn app, Aura.

Since the launch of Aura, both apps have happily co-existed side-by-side as two distinct products, allowing consumers to choose which of the two suits them most and purchase accordingly. Now, however, it would seem that Sygic have disowned their first-born, and will convert Mobile Maps to Aura via a software update whether you like it or not. While we’re certain that Sygic are rolling out with the best of intentions, we don’t think it’s right. Read on for our thoughts.Read More

Kiwi App Review: Domino’s Pizza app emerges fresh from the oven

Mmmmm, pizza! There’s nothing quite like it to slay a raging hunger, and there’s nothing more convenient than ordering it from home and having it delivered to your door. Until now, trying to place such an order on an iPhone or iPad has been a frustrating experience due mainly to an unhealthy reliance on Adobe Flash. Pizza Hut’s website is built entirely on Flash and visiting it from an iPhone or iPad results in nothing but a blank screen – not even a courtesy ‘Sorry, we do not currently support your device’ message. Domino’s Pizza’s website does have an HTML version of their online ordering service, however it’s clunky and slow. One iTunes Account, One App, One GameCenter ID… no more app sharing?

Way back when the App store first started, one thing I thought was great was that I could install an app I had purchased with my iTunes account on multiple iDevices. Apple didn’t seem to mind, as long as I owned both of the devices, but this may now be changing with the introduction of GameCenter.

App store promo codes now available worldwide

As you may or may not know when a developer wants to give away a free copy of his ‘paid-for’ app they have to give you a promo code and up until now those promo codes have been for the US store only.

As of yesterday this has all changed and devs can now give out promo codes for any country not just the US. Way back when we first started this site we wrote about “Kiwi sites that should have an iPhone version but don’t”. The #1 site for us was TradeMe but nothing ever came of it until 10 months later when iPhonewzealand writer Paul received a Tweet saying “it’s on the to do list”, then a month and half ago we saw the TradeMe API released and immediately questions were being asked of an imminent iPhone app.

We heard nothing and clearly if anything was being worked on it was under NDA…. that is until today! Completely out of the blue we received an email from a dev asking us for our UDID’s so he could send us a surprise…. we’re pretty switched on here at iPnz and spotted the @trademe.co.nz part of his email address straight away.
