Guess Who Won the Otago App Competition!
Recently, Otago innovation Ltd (part of Otago university) held the event called ‘Appstar’, an app idea competition. The competition was so people with a great idea for a smart phone app could enter it online and the top 5 would battle it out live, dragons den style.
Each finalist had five minutes to present their app idea to a panel of judges and the audience. The winner received $20,000 towards the development of the app and a cut of the profits.
Overall, there were 108 entries, including a last minute ‘oh why not’ entry from me.

Competition: Win a 32GB WiFi iPad 2 with thanks to Vonage – Closed

As we mentioned the other day, we’ve teamed up with Vonage to celebrate the launch of their Time to Call app by giving away a shiny new 32GB WiFi iPad 2 to one lucky reader (although we originally had to pull out the folks at Vonage have been amazing and have made it possible for us to run it).

UPDATE: Great News! The fantastic folks at Vonage have agreed to let us run the competition for New Zealand residents only and have agreed to us blocking international traffic. You may be thinking “wtf, you are blocking international traffic?!?” but we have to to keep the costs down. If we leave it open whilst the competition is running it could cost us a fortune. Anyway… head over to this post to check the competition out.
With much regret, we are having to cancel our involvement in this promotion. As this is a globally-promoted competition, the cost of receiving the international traffic that it would attract would cripple us financially. Apologies to all.…

Kiwi App Preview and Giveaway: Sudoku Real Edition 2 [Gallery]
When we visited the NZ iDev Un-Conference waaaaay back last year, there was a time slot set aside for ‘Show and Tell’. One app that caught our eye was Sudoku Real Edition for the iPad by New Zealand husband and wife developers David & Amy Jones.
