The iPhone 4 antenna problem: round-up and what you can do about it
If you’ve been cruising the interwebs over the past couple of days, you can’t have missed the plethora of stories, some factual and some not-so-much, about the problem with the iPhone 4′s antenna. In a nutshell: the stainless-steel rim of the iPhone 4 is actually two antennae. The two antennae are separated via notches in the rim, one of which (on the lower-left of the phone) is positioned where many people (particularly lefties) ‘bridge’ the notch with their fingers or palm. This ‘flesh-bridge’, if you’ll forgive the term, connects the two antennae and causes loss of signal. So what can be done about it? Read on.

XT Network “having some issues” south of Taupo
Got no service on your iPhone this morning? Telecom has tweeted confirmation this morning that they are aware of issues that are affecting areas south of Taupo and that engineers are working to restore service. Until then, enjoy a foggy and unwanted reminder of what life was like pre-iPhone… it’s not nice!
[Update 1:20pm] Many people are reporting that they have coverage again, including us.

SMS Timestamp issue for XT finally resolved
Yay! The issue we reported on back in September whereby text messages were coming through with an incorrect timestamp following the introduction of Daylight Savings on the XT network have finally been fixed. We’d almost given up waiting but it’s great that it has been resolved. Who knows what will happen when the clocks go back again in April, but let’s hope the issue has been isolated for the future.

SMS timestamp one hour out for XT customers since DST
A number of readers have contacted us to say that the timestamp on their XT-connected iPhone is out by an hour since daylight savings. Just to confirm, no you are not receiving messages from the future. Telecom has tweeted that this issue is theirs and that it is working on a fix. Do not adjust your iPhones, folks!

Music Top Ten in iPhone NZ iTunes Store goes AWOL
The music “Top Tens” section of the iPhone iTunes store in New Zealand has been missing in action since the release of iPhone OS 3.1. Top tens remain in place for other sections such as ringtones and podcasts, but the music section now only supports “new releases” and “genres” making the store far less useful than before.
