iTunes in the cloud now available from New Zealand store

iTunes in the Cloud available now

Amongst other updates that are coming with iCloud, Apple has quietly updated the iTunes Store on iOS 5 to now allow for iTunes in the Cloud, meaning the music you purchase in iTunes appears automatically on all your devices and you can also download your past iTunes purchases.

It needs to be activated by going to “Settings >> Store” and then you will see that under Automatic downloads there is now a Music option. This will likely already be there once you download iOS 5 if you are not a dev and don’t currently have it. Once you have done that you will see purchases in the iTunes app and you will be able to download your pas purchases.

Unfortunately iTunes Match is still only available for U.S account holders.  Image gallery after the break…

Hat tip to JarrodM for the heads up…

Today’s iPhone 4S announcement and what it means for New Zealand

Launching November 11

After all the hype and the months of insufferable wild speculation, it pains me to say that if today’s announcement could be summed up in a word it would be: yawn. This will certainly go down in history as one of the least exciting iPhone keynotes (in my opinion at least), but for New Zealand in particular there is even less to be excited about. Why? Keep reading.…

Are you open for business?

Snowstorms, earthquakes and tornadoes: mother nature just keeps throwing curve-balls at New Zealand this year and there’s no telling when she’ll do it again. If you’re reading this blog it’s a fair bet to say that you own at least one iOS device, so keep reading and make sure that you’re tooled up to avoid being part of these statistics.…

Facebook switches on ‘Places’ for New Zealand

Want some chips?

John is at the chip shop. Mark is at the supermarket. Jane is on the loo. Yes, prepare for a flood of incredibly annoying location announcements from all your friends because Facebook has just flipped the switch on ‘Places’ for New Zealand – the location-aware feature announced last year that allows people with GPS-enabled mobile devices like the iPhone to announce their every movement, should they so wish. The service is live in the Facebook iPhone app right now, so if you’re that kind of person… get to it.…

Why iOS devices suddenly just became a threat to Sky

Coming to a screen near you

Here in New Zealand, Sky operates a nice little monopoly on the pay TV market. It has been like that since 1990 and there are no signs of any new entrants. Feeding us with paltry meals of imported shows two-or-three seasons behind their expiry date, Sky has enjoyed fat profits and (compared to other countries) only few channels to buy programming for. But two announcements made yesterday could finally bring real alternatives to NZ, and Sky should take heed.…

VoBack replacement iPhone 4 backs, available right here in New Zealand

Like Christmas

Back in December we posted a quick look at a silver back that Dan had bought for his iPhone 4. It caused quite a stir as the back is unexpectedly easy to replace and the ability to customise is certainly appealing – from the comments we can see that quite a few of you went off and bought one. We were then contacted by a Christchurch-based company called VoBack who offer similar backs, and they were kind enough to supply us with some samples. Let’s take a look at how the iPhone 4 can be transformed with a bit of colour and texture!…

Merry Christmas to all our readers

Merry Christmas!

To all our readers, we at iPhonewzealand would just like to extend our heart-felt wishes for a very Merry Christmas for you and all your families. 2010 has been another fantastic year for us and we really appreciate all the continued support you’ve given us. The positive feedback we’ve had throughout the year and the blinding work coming out of New Zealand’s development community is what keeps us going, and we’ve really enjoyed giving something back to the kiwi iPhone community.

This year we had four new writers join the team, Paul, Mak, Allan and Andy and we’d like you to join us in thanking them for their input into the site (they do it for free you know).

We’ll be raising our glasses in your honour and are really looking forward to 2011! As we are winding down now, posts to the site will be thin on the ground between now and the new year, but we hope you’ll be with us when we’re back in full swing in the new year.

Have a good one!…
