It will then be available in all Vodafone retail stores from 9:00am. The handset-only price is $1049, but subsidies and contracts appear (with just a cursory glance) to be similar to Telecom’s offerings. Keep reading for the press release and full pricing details.…

Read MoreWhy consumer groups in NZ are barking up the wrong tree with complaints about Apple iTunes pricing
This morning, Stuff is running an article where they bemoan the price of digitally-distributed goods (i.e. music, movies and apps) in New Zealand with a heavy focus on what Apple is charging in the iTunes store for the same titles in the NZ store versus the US. Sadly, Fairfax have done a hatchet-job on the facts and this isn’t helped by the fact that some local heavy-weights have also weighed in, but they’re all missing the point. How? Keep reading.…

Read More2degrees launches aggressive new long-term mobile broadband plan
2degrees have just announced a new mobile broadband plan, and it’s insanely cheap. Providing 12GB (yes, 12!) of data that can last 180 days (6 months) for $150, the plan works out (spread over its maximum duration) as 2GB per month for $25 per month. Not only is that cheap for mobile broadband, it also undercuts the price of traditional ADSL broadband. Telecom, for example, start their ADSL offerings at $41 for 3GB.
It’s amazing what a third competitor in the mobile market has done to data pricing in the last year or so, and it’s great to see continued innovation. We can see this appealing to not just heavy mobile users, but also to lighter home users. Add in the Huawei WiFi router on offer for just $129 and you’ve got an entirely portable wireless broadband network that’s perfect for the likes of WiFi-only iPads and iPod touches.

Read MoreOutright-purchase price of iPhone 4 32GB is $1279? (Update: Confirmed)
iPhonewzealand user Hermes tells us that, having successfully purchased a 32GB model this afternoon, his Vodafone receipt indicates that the outright-purchase price is $1279. In other years, Vodafone have added $30 to the RRP so we could potentially expect to see the 32GB model for $1249 when it goes live on the Apple Online Store this evening. How does that grab you?
UPDATE: Hermes has sent us a photo of the receipt – looks like this is confirmed, for Vodafone at least.
UPDATE 2: We’re hearing reports that the Vodafone receipts for the 16GB are showing $1099, so seems that Apple haven’t added to the RRP this year in which case we can expect the 32GB to be $1279 on the store.…

Read MoreiPhone 4 pricing and launch date to be announced next week: Vodafone
Anyone else that pre-registered with Vodafone just received an email titled “All you need to know about Vodafone’s Micro SIM for Apple”? If so you may not have read all of it and may have missed something interesting at the bottom and whilst not a firm date at least we have better timeline.
Unfortunately it is again more announcements of announcements, but this is the first time we’ve had any real timeframe of the announcement (damn this is hard work).
Oh, and the email also contains some stuff about the Micro SIM and what you need to do.

We’re a couple of days late with this one, but we have just noticed Vodafone have made some small improvements to a couple of their iPhone plans. The improvements are very slight, so much so that Vodafone didn’t make a huge fuss about it themselves when it was changed four days ago.

Read More2degrees announces 50MB data bundle and $10 text
Until now, 2degrees’ mobile offering has been somewhat of a cruel mistress for iPhone users – attractive calling rates, but expensive data caps (50c per MB) and 2G speeds. Well, something had to change and this afternoon, one of these issues has been addressed in an announcement made by the company via a press event in Auckland. Available immediately are two new optional packages – a 50MB data plan and a $10 text bundle. Yes folks, 2degrees finally just became a serious option for iPhone users – but does it stack up against the other players?…

Early bird New Zealand iPad pricing will hit your wallet hard
As pointed out by one of our readers ToshNewZealand.com have listed some early pricing for the iPad in New Zealand. Now the pricing isn’t the official New Zealand pricing by any means, and the devices are imports not NZ sourced (but come with a NZ power cord).
Just for the record…. I am not good at waiting, in fact I am very impatient and have often paid more to get something as soon as possible, but personally for the iPad, I would rather wait for the official pricing (fortunately for me I should to be getting one through family in the US). For those that can’t wait and need it as soon as possible you can order it now from their website for delivery once launched*.
We have created a table of pricing comparing the US price with that of ToshNewZealand.com. According to the current exchange rate, you could be paying up to $309NZD more than our U.S friends…… it’s to be expected that we (NZ) would pay more but it still hurts.

Read MorePrepay Comparison Table
In the interests of easier comparison of New Zealand’s now three mobile networks, iPhonewzealand user Ahmad has created a table which should allow deciphering of the mobile plans to be easier than the Da Vinci code. The table covers prepaid plans only, which is 2degrees’s main focus at launch, and heavier users of mobile phone may be able to find a better deal going on account.…
