Winter 2011: Web Browser Comparisons

On April 13th 2010 history was made, the first 3rd party Web Browser for iOS was approved. Opera Mini was the first amongst many browsers to grace the iOS and since then it has been followed by a succession of unique browsers.

However, if you try and find a review on them, to see which you would like the most before buying, you will be sadly disappointed. It has been many a month since any blog reviewed and compared the cream of the offerings. With iOS5 and its revamped Safari just around the corner (and because I am not restricted to the NDA) I think it’s time we changed that!

iPhone-friendly alarm clocks are a great thing – as well as charging your device while you sleep, they also allow you to wake up to your favourite tunes. I’ve recently had the opportunity to try out two different alarm clocks designed for iPod / iPhone, both with what appears to be similar feature-sets but very different price-tags. The first is the Thomson RC59I at $79.95 and the other is the Panasonic RC-DC1 at $149.95. With one being almost twice the price of the other, I wanted to know whether this was simply a case of paying extra for a more well-known brand or if you really do get what you pay for. Kiwi App Review: Domino’s Pizza app emerges fresh from the oven

Mmmmm, pizza! There’s nothing quite like it to slay a raging hunger, and there’s nothing more convenient than ordering it from home and having it delivered to your door. Until now, trying to place such an order on an iPhone or iPad has been a frustrating experience due mainly to an unhealthy reliance on Adobe Flash. Pizza Hut’s website is built entirely on Flash and visiting it from an iPhone or iPad results in nothing but a blank screen – not even a courtesy ‘Sorry, we do not currently support your device’ message. Domino’s Pizza’s website does have an HTML version of their online ordering service, however it’s clunky and slow. Luckily the company have just launched their iPhone ordering app here in NZ, so if you’re hungry to learn more stick with me and we’ll take a look.Read More

TIP: Enable iOS AirPrint for ALL networked printers in Mac OS X… and then some

For no apparent reason, Apple pulled the support for the highly anticipated (and hyped) iOS feature AirPrint in the final build of Mac OS X 10.6.5. The feature was set to allow any iOS device running 4.2 to print wirelessly to any networked printer on a Mac running 10.6.5. Consequently, the only printers you can print to are a handful of (natively enabled) HP printers. For anybody interested the list of those HP printers can be found here.

For the rest of us who are not willing to buy a new printer just for this feature we are going to take a look at a pretty much 1-click solution to enable AirPrint on ALL networked printers… and a little more. Carry on reading for the full run-down.

Apple Dock for iPhone 4 [video]

When I got my first iPhone one of the things I loved is that it came with a dock. iPhone sat there all shiny and cool looking. Unfortunately the 3G and 3GS didn’t come with one, so the first accessory I bought was the dock. However I found that I never really used the dock as I had a case and would have to take it out to be able to use it (I didn’t use a case for my 1st gen).

So now I have an iPhone 4 and after seeing all the images and videos of it I decided that I wouldn’t be using a case (or did I) so I got myself the iPhone 4 dock.

When we first published this review back in June, the iPad in New Zealand was a distant dot on the horizon. Now that it’s here and more relevant to many of you, we thought we’d do an encore posting with some updates.

When I first got my iPad, and I’m sure many of you are the same, I felt it needed some kind of protection. As you may or may not have seen I went out and bought myself a Logitech case from Noel Leemings for $40.

Now, after I don’t know how long of waiting, I finally have my hands on the official iPad case from Apple.

First Look: Chopper 2 [video],[gallery]

You may remember back in April we posted about Chopper 2 being played on a TV. Well if you ever wanted / needed a reason to get both an iPhone and iPad we may just have it. The long awaited to sequel to kiwi-made Chopper, Chopper 2 is going to be available from Tuesday and will work on both your iPhone or iPad. Best of all, this is one of the first games you will be able to use whilst the iPad is plugged in to your TV (via component cable or VGA adapter) and controlled by your iPhone!

The New Zealand Herald has launched an iPad app, just in time for the launch of the device here. I won’t beat about the bush: it’s fantastic, it’s beautiful, and it’s free.
