Vodafone breaks the silence, announces pricing and midnight launch
Vodafone have finally broken their silence on the iPhone 4S and have this afternoon announced handset pricing, subsidies, plans, and confirmed that they, too, will be hosting a midnight launch at the following stores: Queen St, Auckland; Lambton Quay, Wellington; George St, Dunedin; and Riccarton Mall, Christchurch. It will then be available in all Vodafone retail stores from 9:00am. The handset-only price is $1049, but subsidies and contracts appear (with just a cursory glance) to be similar to Telecom’s offerings. Keep reading for the press release and full pricing details.…

App Review: Quota
Most people have heard of Consume by now, in fact we did a review of it when it first came out. It has become the industry standard usage app for the iOS. However Bjango has not updated it for sometime and is not natively iPad compatible, which is leading to a clunky and rather utilitarian UI.
However, there is now a new kid on the block. Quota (by SouthFreo) may be new, but it is sleek, sexy and worth a look.…

It’s hard to know whether to congratulate or criticize Vodafone for this one: it’s either a genius marketing ploy to have Vodafone customers patch up the network’s short-falls at their own expense, or it’s a radical and empowering idea that gives customers the freedom to live wherever the heck they like and still enjoy full signal bars. Yes, Vodafone have finally begun rolling out Femtocells in New Zealand. Stick with me for the low-down.…

Read MoreVodafone acknowledges 3G issues, fix coming
Last week, we reported on allegations of serious issues with Vodafone’s 3G network, including network drop-outs and failed calls and messaging. A couple of days ago Vodafone formally acknowledged the issue in their forums offering an IT Crowd-style “turn it off and back on again” work-around which was less than ideal, but at 5pm yesterday evening an update was posted to advise that a fix had been identified and that it would be rolled out as soon as possible. Read on for Vodafone’s announcement and post your reactions.…

Read MoreAre you experiencing data, text or voice issues on your iPhone’s Vodafone connection?
The team at iPhonewzealand use Telecom XT for our iPhones, so this has gone under the radar for us until now, but a can of worms has been opened for Vodafone over at Geekzone. Site moderator sbiddle opened a thread in which he described the issues he is currently experiencing with data sessions on his Nokia E71 stalling, SMS messages neither being delivered nor received and voice calls going straight to voicemail. According to his posts and blog, Vodafone CSRs refused to accept that this was a real issue, so sbiddle turned to Geekzone to see if anybody else was experiencing the same issues. Boy did the floodgates open……
